Demarest, Ramos e Zuanon and Levy & Salomão steer farming sale

16/05/2016

Demarest Advogados has helped the farming unit of Chinese conglomerate Pengxin acquire a controlling stake in Brazilian grain company Fiagril.

Fiagril hired Ramos e Zuanon Advogados for the deal, while US investment fund Amerra Chapada, which owns a 25 per cent stake in Fiagril, called on Levy & Salomão Advogados. The sale was announced on 29 April, and is expected to close towards the end of June.

It is thought JunHe Law Offices in Beijing and Brazilian firm Carizani & Lemos Advogados also advised Pengxin and Fiagril respectively, but this could not be confirmed prior to publication.

The value of the sale is undisclosed, but a source close to the deal told news agency Reuters that the deal value could be around one billion reais (US$290 million).

The transaction hands Pengxin unit Hunan Dakang Pasture Farming a 57.6 per cent share of Fiagril’s voting rights.
